How healthcare benefit works
Dutch zorgtoeslag explained for expats and international workers
Laatst gecontroleerd: 24 May 2026
Healthcare benefit helps pay your mandatory Dutch health insurance premium. In Dutch it is called zorgtoeslag.
You apply via Belastingdienst / toeslagen.nl. MoneyScan only gives an estimate using 2025 limits we maintain manually.
Example 2025
Single person, income about € 24,000, low assets: often near the maximum of about € 131 per month.
Above about € 39,719 (single) you usually receive nothing.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting assets on 1 January (savings, investments).
- Assuming supplementary insurance lowers the allowance (it usually does not).
- Using monthly salary instead of yearly test income.
